USA Northern Lights from Murphy Dome
This spot is a pull-off on Murphy Dome, which is about twenty-five (25) miles from downtown Fairbanks, Alaska. The ambient light to the south is minimal. There is ambient light directly to the north from the radar site.
Photography Tips
The pull-off spot is perfect for setting up and waiting for the Northern Lights. These photos were taken on a September night in 2016. Be prepared to battle wind and chilly temperatures. Put a good counter weight on your tripod.
Travel Information
Take Airport Way, AK-3 and Sheep Creek Road to Murphy Dome Road. Follow it up to the pull-off, which is directly downhill from the radar site.
