One of Oregon's wonders. Mt. Hood’s perpetually snowy peak — crowned by eleven glaciers, one for every thousand feet it rises above sea level — can be seen from miles and miles away. The second most climbed mountain in the world, Mt. Hood is crowned by 11 glaciers. Beautiful alpine lakes with names like Lost, Trillium and Mirror dot Mt. Hood’s flanks, each offering its own unique view of the mountain.

Photography Tips

Patience especially on cloud covered days as the mountain can be obscured for a prolonged time. Trillium Lake is beautiful and serene there's opportunity to take in the beauty while you wait for the "perfect" shot.

Use a wide angle lens and find a good foreground. For my image, I requested the owner of a yellow paddle boat to put it in front of me. I used a 14mm lens to shoot this image.

Travel Information

Drive south from Hood River along route 35 and turn off just before Timberline Lodge on the left. Parking available for about 25 vehicles. Will cost you $5 use fee. You can pay by cash. Make sure you have a pen to write down your car's license plate to fill out the form and drop it into the collection box.
