USA Pine Creek Bridge
The SR9 switchback route that leads from Canyon Junction to the east side of Zion National Park zigzags Seven times before entering the 1.1 mile long Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel. The first “Zig” crosses the historic Pine Creek Bridge. There’s a large pullout on both sides of the road before the bridge. There’s a trailhead at the bridge that leads to some pools where those “in the know” go to soak in the cold water on hot summer days. There’s a nice little waterfall just above a pool as well. The bridge itself is very photogenic, especially in the winter. Pine Creek trickles under the bridge as it winds its way down to join the Virgin River.
Photography Tips
Shooting underneath at stream level from a few yards east of the bridge is a good location around mid-morning and late afternoon.
Travel Information
From Canyon Junction in Zion National Park (where a left turn leads to Zion Canyon), continue on SR9 to the first switchback and park in one of the large pullouts. Starting from the upstream side of the bridge (before you cross it), carefully make your way down to Pine Creek and compose your shot under the bridge with the mountains of Zion in the distance.
