USA Birds Eye Trail
If you’re driving to Bryce Canyon from Highway 89 in Utah, you’ll drive through Red Canyon on Highway 12. The canyon is actually various shades of brilliant orange colors. There are pullouts all through the canyon that can be used for a quick stop and photos. There is also a large network of trails available for all ages and abilities. This image was taken from the Birds Eye Trail.
Photography Tips
Parts of the trail is very narrow (12-18 inches) with some exposure. There are no vertical drops but the slope just off the trail is deceptively steep so be careful when setting up for your photo. As is the case with all sandstone landscapes, the colors are dramatically enriched after rainfall.
Travel Information
It’s about 3 miles from the turnoff from Highway 89 to the Red Rock Visitor Center. You can access the trail from the visitor center or from the second pullout on the right east of the Visitor Center.
