USA Zion Nature Center

There’s a small hill just a few yards north of the Zion Nature Center that I like to climb early in the morning. The total elevation of the hill is probably no more than thirty feet but provides a nice view of the mountains of Zion in the distance, often shrouded in fog or in the winter, blanketed in snow. While there are none in the image, I’ve never been in this spot without seeing a half dozen or more mule deer, usually still bedded down. It’s just a very peaceful tranquil spot. I don’t meditate per se but if I did, I’d come here to do it.

Photography Tips

If you get there just after sunrise you’ll likely have the area all to yourself even during the heavy summer tourist season.

Travel Information

From the Zion National Park South entrance, drive .3 miles to the entrance to the South Campground. Turn right, then an immediate left and drive to the end of the parking lot and park. The small hill is about 30 yards northeast of the Zion Nature Center building.
