USA Spider Meadow 1
For the hiking photographer this is one of the premier sites in the state of Washington. It gives unparalleled opportunity for so many shots but it does come with a price in distance to get there. It is especially attractive for the magnificent wildflower bloom. Further on the trail is Phelps Basin which is incredible.
Photography Tips
This is absolutely a sunrise shot with the peak of Chiwawa bathed in golden sunlight while the meadows are still a rich green. The evening shot is poor being mostly backlit. A polarizer filter could help as the sun is off the right shoulder. If you have a good enough camera the astrophotography possibilities are amazing with sky clarity being like I have never experienced. This location is on the right or east side of the tail of the meadow where all the camping spots are located. The plentiful wildflower bloom peaks during the last week of July.
Travel Information
Washington Trails Association has a nice description of the hike on:
https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/spider-meadows
This is a pretty long hike of 14 miles (22km) and 1900 feet (700m) elevation which can be done in a day but for the golden hour will require an overnight. Good camping sites are located just as you emerge from the forest trail into the meadow.
