USA Pine Valley Peak
The beautiful drive up Kolob Terrace road is often overlooked by travelers en route to Zion National Park. It provides access to a half dozen or so rugged hikes and there are numerous opportunities for photographers and artists including a high altitude perspective of Zion National Park in the distance.
Photography Tips
This was a 30 second exposure f/2.8, 14mm, ISO 3200. The foreground was (obviously) lit artificially.
Travel Information
From the intersection of SR9 and Kolob Terrace Road in Virgin, Utah drive 16 miles (25.75 km) to a pullout on the right side of the road, just a few meters before the parking area for the Wildcat Trailhead in Zion National Park. There is room for about three vehicles at the pullout and perhaps twenty more at the Wildcat parking area. There is also a vault toilet at Wildcat. From the pullout, follow the narrow path through the brush to the edge of a cliff. Be very careful, especially at night. The brush, tree roots and jagged volcanic rocks near the cliff makes the short two minute walk a bit precarious as you get near the edge of the escarpment. A fall from the cliff would likely be catastrophic.
