USA Heather-Maple Loop
This is possibly the ultimate hike for mountain beauty in Washington state; when you add the autumn colors it certainly achieves that superlative. It takes some sweat to make the loop but the photo opportunities are endless.
Photography Tips
Bring your good camera and tripod; don't forget a polarizing filter. It is a loop hike and I would recommend you hike anti- clockwise for the better views early in the morning with the better light. Hike out downhill when you are tired and your knees will hurt anyway.
Travel Information
Travel on Highway 20 to Rainy Pass and look for the trailhead and signs on the south side. Arrive very early as the trailhead will fill up and the trail get busy. Look for signs to the loop trail and follow switchbacks through the forest until you break out above the tree line and marvel at the views. For autumn colors you will want to come during the first week of October.
