USA Makapu'u Lighthouse Pillboxes
This is a photo of Makapu'u Beach and the coastline extending northwest toward Waimanalo. This spot can be accessed by climbing the hill adjacent to the Makapu'u Lighthouse.
Photography Tips
This spot can be a little challenging to shoot in the evening. I would recommend attempting to shoot this scene during sunrise if possible. However, it would be difficult to safely access this area in the dark.
Shooting this scene around sunset will result in areas of very high brightness and very dark shadows. It will test your camera's dynamic range. Shooting an HDR may be a good idea, however, the scene is so wide I chose to make a panorama instead.
(Perhaps an HDR Panorama would be best - however, I haven't attempted to create such a photo since Adobe Lightroom added the function.)
You will need a very wide angle and/or take multiple panorama shots to capture the entire scene. A tripod and polarizing filter are also recommended. Make sure to check the histogram and confirm you're not clipping highlights or shadows.
The specs of the centre photo are shown below:
Camera: Sony Alpha A7 III
Lens: Sony 16-35 f/2.8 G-Master
Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 200
Focal Length: 16mm full frame (approx. 11mm on an APS-C sensor).

Travel Information
This spot is relatively easy to access. Head towards the southeast via Kalaniana'ole Hwy (72). Turn onto Makapuu Lighthouse Rd. Plenty of parking exists on the side of the road if the small parking lot is filled up.
Hike the paved path ~1.25 miles up to the top of the hill. Once at the top, the you'll see a platform with scenic views on your right (east) and a hill with some pillboxes on the left (west).
