USA Near Checkerboard Mesa
The east side of Zion National Park offers endless photo opportunities including several short but picturesque slot canyons, hoodoos, and swirling sandstone and is far less crowded than Zion Canyon.
Photography Tips
This is a good spot any time day or night. I used the light from a miniature battery powered lantern to illuminate the foreground in this photo.
Travel Information
From the Checkerboard Mesa parking lot near the east entrance to Zion National Park, drive west 0.7 miles (1.1 km) to the paved pullout on the right. Make your way north, crossing the (normally) dry Pine Creek and walk up the spine of sandstone to a group of sandstone pillars, which you can see from the road.
