Schwabacher Landing is one of the most popular locations for photographers in Grand Teton National Park. Two other favorite spots there are Oxbow Bend and the barns at Mormon Row.

Photography Tips

Get there at least 30 minutes before sunrise to claim your spot among the dozens of others who line the Snake River shoreline every day (especially during the Fall).

Travel Information

There’s a sign on Highway 191 for Schwabacher Landing directing you to a rough 1-mile-long dirt road to the parking area. The road is OK for all vehicles if driven slowly and carefully. The road is not well maintained though and would be a muddy quagmire after rain or snow. There are two parking areas. The first one you’ll see is on a short spur on the left shortly after you’ve left the paved section of the road. You can walk to the river’s edge for good compositions and can follow the river for a couple of miles to the left for other good perspectives. To get to the spot where this photo was taken, stay on the main road (to the right) a few hundred yards further from where it ends. Many photographers line the river right at that parking area but the best spot (in my opinion) requires a five-minute walk along the well-trodden path until it ends at a wooden barricade. It will be obvious by the crowd there that you’ve arrived.
