USA Zion Waterpockets
Just west of “Checkerboard Mesa”, a series of water pockets almost always holds some amount of water. After a heavy rainfall, water cascades from one to the other.
Photography Tips
The mesa on the north side of highway SR9 makes for nice compositions. I like this spot in the winter when Zion is snow covered but one must be very careful when scampering on snow covered slickrock. You especially don’t want to slip into a water pocket that can be quite deep and difficult to escape.
Travel Information
From the east entrance of Zion, drive west 0.7 miles (1.1 km) to a pullout on the right. There’s room for 2 or 3 vehicles. Carefully cross the frequently busy road and follow the gently climbing drainage.
