USA West Point Lighthouse

One of the most visited parks in Seattle, Discovery park offers plethora of opportunities for a photographer.

One of the most popular spots within this park is West Point Lighthouse at the very tip of the park. It is an amazing location to capture sunset colors.

Be prepared for a approximately 1.5 mile walk (one way). Despite the fact that you will see a road leading directly to the lighthouse on a map, this location can only be reached by foot. Special permission is required for those who wish to park in the very small parking lot near the lighthouse and is usually only granted to families with small children.

If you are visiting for sunset, make sure to bring a headlamp or flashlight. Light are limited through the park and you will navigate the trails in dark.

This location works great at sunset but it is worth visiting at any time of the day.

On sunny days be prepared to share with others, tourists and locals alike.

ND Filter can be useful as some opportunities for nice long exposures exist in the area and/or to remove people from your shots.

Parking is available at several parking lots withing the park, from there you have to walk. The walk along a bluff can feel a bit strenuous if you are not in decent physical shape.

Parties with small children or handicapped person might be able to secure permit for parking directly at the lighthouse.
