USA White River Valley Overlook
Badlands National Park has an Open Hike Policy, which means you’re allowed to hike off-trail wherever you can visit safely. This allows for infinite photo opportunities. Wildlife including deer, bison, bighorn sheep, antelope, and prairie dog are common.
Photography Tips
Good sunset location. While you’re allowed to hike wherever you please, watch where you walk. Although bites are extremely rare, this is rattlesnake country, so watch where you’re walking during warmer months. They tend to hibernate when temperatures dip below 50°F. Also, keep a safe distance (officials suggest 25 yards) from Bison which are seen throughout the park. While they may seem slow and docile, they are quite fast and can attack without warning.
