USA Pololū Valley Lookout
Nice view overlooking the Pololū Valley and Pacific Ocean on the northern tip of the Big Island. The overlook is also the trailhead of a hike (Awini Trail ) down to a black sand beach (NOT safe for swimming). The hike is 4.5 km R/T and a 347 m descent/ascent.
Travel Information
A 60 mile/96.5 km drive from Kailua Kona or 83 mile/133.5 km drive from Hilo at the literal end of highway 270. There’s a small parking area at the overlook with a 10 minute limit but parking is legal on both sides of the road before the parking area. Be sure to park COMPLETELY off the road or risk getting a ticket. Large vehicles will have a hard time turning around at or near the end of the road or in the tiny parking area. No toilets.
