On the east side of Zion NP, a short five minute walk provides access to vast panoramas toward both the east and west. This view is of the western flank of Checkerboard Mesa.

Photography Tips

This is a less viewed perspective of Checkerboard Mesa. The more well known view of the mesa is from the aforementioned parking lot.

Travel Information

On the east side of Zion NP, drive 3 miles/4.8 km east of the small tunnel or 0.7 mile/1.1 km west of the Checkerboard Mesa parking lot to a pullout on the north side of SR9. Carefully cross the road and make your way uphill beyond a sandy area to a wide expanse of slickrock.
