USA The New Wave

Area of undulating sandstone mounds, knobs, and hoodoos that doesn’t measure up to its namesake “The Wave” in Coyote Buttes but is still very impressive, doesn’t require a permit, is easy to get to and is free. It’s a fun place to explore while in the Page, Arizona area if you have an hour or so to spare. Glen Canyon Dam is just a mile away and Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon is also nearby. The area around Page is a photographer’s paradise.

Photography Tips

I haven’t been there at sunset but it is said to be a good sunset location.

Travel Information

To get there from Page, drive northwest on US-89 N towards Kanab, past the Glen Canyon Dam. Just one mile west of the dam, turn left at the well maintained dirt road. From the Utah/Arizona border, drive 7.3 miles and turn right (directly across from the Glen Canyon Dam Access Road). Take the dirt road and turn right immediately after crossing the cattle guard. Drive about 150 yards to a dirt/gravel parking area on the left. Take the obvious trail leading toward the sandstone hills. The loop hike is about 1.25 miles/2.4km long.
