USA Locomotive Point

As best I can ascertain, the primary draw for Locomotive Point are the ancient pictographs and rock climbing opportunities but this spot is on the other side of the Navajo Sandstone wall.

This spot is about 30 miles/48km east of Green River, Utah. Even though it is only about a half mile north of Interstate 70, it’s a rather convoluted route to get there and the last half mile requires a 4 WD vehicle due to very deep pockets of sand. There are several detailed descriptions of the route online but as conditions change, the sandy track north of the interstate might also change due to blowing sand that might alter your route. When we were there, we deviated from the online directions and took the middle of three forks (labeled on GoogleMaps as “Devils Racetrack”) because the sand wasn’t as deep as the other options. No facilities.

From the pictographs, walk westward for several minutes until you see a path leading to the back side of the rock wall.
