USA Chena River
All my research suggested that autumn colors would be past prime during my travels to Fairbanks Alaska September 19 thru 25. As our flight approached Fairbanks, I looked out the window and saw a sea of bright yellow and orange far below. From 10,000 feet, I was still unsure what I was looking at until we were on the ground. During our visit we drove for several hours in every direction and found the trees and foliage in prime autumn colors. Jackpot! Also, the drives to Denali Park and Chena Hot Springs revealed mile after mile of placid ponds and streams. Perfect moose habitat that also made for endless reflection photography opportunities.
Photography Tips
In late September, bugs were around but not that bad. During summer months, you could strap a saddle on the mosquitos. If you’re not prepared with bug spray and/or mosquito nets your photography could suffer due to hastily composed photos. Also, the entire state is bear country so be bear aware and carry bear spray.
