USA Potato Chip Rock
This thin as a potato chip rock juts out into the surrounding landscape about 15-20 feet in the air. It looks as though you are hovering in space. I took a shot of myself, but I liked the composition of this young woman who permitted me to take a shot of her.
Photography Tips
Bring a tripod with a remote shutter release.
Travel Information
Mt Woodson Road is closed to the public. The only way to reach the site is to hike the Woodson trail. It is about 3.5 miles with 2,100 feet of vertical gain. The hike to the spot takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. Start very early before the crowds come and the heat rises. There were not many people when I got there in February, but my understanding is that there can be a line of Instagrammers at many times.
It can be a bit tricky getting to a nice spot to sit as you need to climb a boulder and then jump over a rather large crack between two rocks to get to the spot. Be careful!
