USA Roddy Road Covered Bridge
A covered bridge has stood here over Owens Creek, Frederick County, Maryland, since at least 1856; it is on the National Register of Historic Places. Confederate General JEB Stuart and his calvary crossed the bridge on July 5, 1863 during the American Civil War Battle of Gettsyburg. Sadly, this is not that bridge. The original was ruined in October 2016 when someone tried to drive an oversize truck through what is the smallest and shortest of Maryland’s registered covered bridges, destroying its roof. The National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program funded an all-new bridge, this time with an aluminum roof, and it was completed by April 2017.
Photography Tips
Explore the immediate area for other shots. If the light is right, Owens Creek itself can make a good photo. For overall composition though the bridge is best photographed from the North as I have here.
Travel Information
Very easy to get to by car. There is a nice little park here with a good parking lot and facilities available.
