The Yosemite Firefall is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the setting sun hits Horsetail Fall at a specific angle, creating the illusion of a river of molten lava flowing down the side of El Capitan. The event usually takes place between mid to late February, around 5 to 15 minutes before sunset.

Photography Tips

However, it's only visible for a few minutes and conditions must be perfect, so it can be difficult to catch. Even a single cloud can block the light and ruin the experience.
