USA San Juan River Goosenecks, Utah
Millions of years ago, the land here was relatively flat, and the river meandered on its course. Then a period of uplift occurred on the Colorado Plateau. As the land rose, the river flowed faster while still following its meandering course. The river cut into the land, eventually creating the impressive entrenched meanders seen at Goosenecks State Park today.
Photography Tips
It's not easy to photograph due to the huge expanse and dull coloured rocks. This is a 16 exposure panorama shot in vertical format from the main lookout. More time to explore could find a better camera position. Flat grey light required quite a bit of post processing. 1/800, f4.5 ISO 100, 43mm equiv. f.l.
