Photography Tips
A medium zoom lens (24~70mm full frame) and wide angle lens (16~35mm full frame) both work well at this spot and in the general surrounding area.
The 1st / main photo at this spot was taken facing south-west showing SLC and the Oquirrh Mountains. At ~37mm one may capture a nice view of the SLC valley area and surrounding mountains. However, one may also zoom in 55~70mm to capture more clear images of the city. A polarizing filter is also extremely useful.
The specs of the first photo are shown below:
Camera: Sony Alpha A7 III
Lens: Sigma 24~70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art
Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 160
Focal Length: 37.3mm full frame (approx. 25mm on an APS-C sensor)
The 2nd photo at this spot is facing north-east and shows the Wasatch Mountains which surround SLC. It is a 4 photo panorama stitched together by Lightroom's Panorama Merge function. Even though a wide angle lens was used (nearly fully zoomed out), it still required a panorama to capture the vast area!!! The specs of a single photo in the panoramic set are shown below:
Camera: Sony Alpha A7 III
Lens: Sony 16-35 f/2.8 G-Master
Shutter Speed: 1/200 sec
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 19mm full frame (approx. 13mm on an APS-C sensor)
Keep in mind the time of day and position of the sun when planning any photos you want to take.
