USA Clifton Gorge - Yellow Springs, Ohio
This photo was taken on a hiking trail in Clifton Gorge state nature preserve. It's located just a bit east of the tiny town Yellow Springs, Ohio. The Clifton Gorge nature preserve has some nice and relatively easy hiking trails which run parallel to a stream.
There is a point where the stream narrows which creates a cool turbulent effect. I photographed this location in the fall due to the many nice colors of leaves.
This particular area is prohibited and dangerous to access. Please see travel information below.

Photography Tips
There is a big rock where I set my camera. Alternatively a tripod may be useful. This is an HDR photograph. The specs of the photo are:
- Shutter Speeds: 2.5sec, 0.6sec, 10sec
- Aperture: f/8
- ISO: 100
- Focal Length: 18mm Nikon APS-C
Experiment with different shutter speeds until you are satisfied with the blur level of the water.
Also I would recommend photographing Clifton Gorge during the fall when the leaves change color. Too early in the Spring and nothing has bloomed. During the Summer everything is green and therefore not so interesting. Too late in the fall and the trees will be barren.
Because the area is well shaded the light isn't too harsh, even if you go near the mid-afternoon.

Travel Information
One must drive to the Clifton Gorge parking lot located on OH-343 outside Yellow Springs, Ohio. From the parking lot follow the short trail to the nature preserve building.
In front of that building are stairs that lead down to the lower trail. Follow that trail for ~0.2 miles. You will find some wooden platforms for viewing the stream and a fence to keep people away from the ledge of the embankment.
Caution - Do NOT follow the advice below.
The stream is about 25ft (~8m) below. To take this same photo one must pass over / through the fence and then descend to the stream. The embankment is very steep and one could easily slip / fall and be seriously hurt or killed.
At the base there exists a large rock where a camera may be balanced. For more security a tripod may be used (if the camera falls it's going into the stream).
Again, do not attempt to do this as it is dangerous. Also, passing beyond the fenced area is prohibited.
