Vatican City State Panorama of Rome from St. Peter's Basilica
The St. Peter's Basilica in Rome (or more exactly in Vatican City) offers an amazing view of the city. The entrance is free, but exhausting to walk up there. It's worth the walk, but please don't do it if you have claustrophobia, because the stairs are extremely narrow.
Photography Tips
Be aware of your equipment while getting up there and place it in your bag instead of carrying it by hand, because the stairway is pretty narrow and you really don't want to touch the wall with your camera...
