Vietnam Japanese Covered Bridge

This covered bridge was first built in the 1590s by the japanese community of Hoi An. The purpose was to link them with the chinese quarters across the stream. Over the time the bridge was modified but reconstructed to it's original shape in 1986.

Photography Tips

The view point you see is from another bridge. Unfortunately this bridge is not very solid so if pedestrians are crossing while you shoot on a tripod they will likely ruin your exposure. So that's one of the reasons why I chose to take my picture in the blue hour (less pedestrians). And you will get a nice color contrast because the bridge is illuminated in yellow - under a dark blue sky ...

Travel Information

The small town Hoi An is located near the old Emperors City Hue. It's pretty much in the middle of Vietnam. How An is VERY picturesque anyway, not just the Japanese Covered Bridge. I tend to say it's one of the best spots for photographers in Vietnam! If you go to Vietnam make sure you don't miss it!
