Vietnam Hanoi train street south

So much better than the northern train street. No crowds (I was all by myself), no hawkers. The only downside (and upside) is that you have to be here 05:30am to first catch the arriving train and half an hour later the departing. I think there are some more trains during the day but then it might be crowded.

Afterwards, have a morning phó at the train crossing with the locals while the sun rises and you digest your morning experience. Can't be better!

When finished, stroll in the alleys as the city wake up and markets opening up.

Photography Tips

You will hear the train arriving well in advance. Make sure you have space to the tracks to tuck in when the train passes, it's tight (but mighty)! You'll have approximately 100 meters to shoot the train when it appears. It's moving quite slow but have your camera ready with all the settings you want. Not much time to fiddle with that.

I used my 40-150mm lens for the shots.

Travel Information

222 Đ. Lê Duẩn is a good address to give to the driver to get there.

I took a taxi to get there and a motorbike when I left. (Grab is an excellent app to have while you’re there and in the rest of SE Asia).
