I've heard it said that "people don't care about what you do until they know about why you do it" and I think that is true. I stand for conservation! Using less, or using only what I need to, are core values of mine. This is different than preservation, protecting wildlife and the wild places they inhabit, which is also vitally important to me. These are why I do what I do. In my day job I work on energy transition and low-carbon fuels and when I'm not doing that, I love to photograph wildlife and the wild places they inhabit.
So why are there are other images in my portfolio besides just wildlife? It's because I think learning other genres will improve my photography skills and make me a better wildlife photographer.
I am self-taught but have completed coursework (and continuing to study the methods) of professional photographers who specialize in travel, landscapes, birds and wildlife. I enjoy sharing my images and using them as discussion starters about threatened species, declining habitat, conservation and preservation. There are now 8 billion+ people in the world, and our planet has limited resources. But it's because there are so many of us that even small changes can make a big difference!
I currently live and work in Westerville, OH, but with my family I love we make our home in Yucaipa, CA - an area rich with wildlife and wild areas where I can practice my art. “We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10). We are created for a purpose, and through my photography my purpose is to bring glory to God and to advance conservation and preservation. This is good work! And I hope that it inspires others to use less and to protect wildlife and the wild places they live!
