Argentina Mouth of the Rio Valdéz and Lago Fagnano
Southwest of Tolhuin, the Rio Valdéz passes under Ruta Nacional 3 and then flows into Lago Fagnano. The Parque Provincial Rio Valdéz has been established in the estuary area and the surrounding forest.
The 110 km long lake extends far into Chile. It is embedded in the mountains of the southern foothills of the Andes. This lake acts like a wind tunnel; a stiff wind or even a storm blows from Chile across the lake to this shore practically all the time. Thus the water level here can be more than 1.2 m higher than at the Chilean end.
Here you can observe how the increasing wind in the lake whips waves higher and higher and the shore is flooded more and more. It is not surprising that the steep bank is obviously "gnawed" by the water.
