Argentina Salinas Grandes

A road leads right through "the great salt flats". They have a glistening white surface. Only at the edges there are brown-white patterns.
Here, various salts are mined with large equipment, piled up into heaps and loaded onto trucks. The expansion during crystallisation creates pressure that produces hexagonal patterns on the surface. Table salt is extracted in basins that have been dug for this purpose.
