Argentina Quebrada de Humahuaca
The Quebrada de Humahuaca, the biggest attraction of the province of Jujuy in the far northwest of Argentina, is not so much a gorge (quebrada) but a valley. The Rio Grande river valley is very green. In spring, however, the river is anything but "grande". However, it and its tributaries have done a good job. Together with heat, cold and wind, they have created one of the most spectacular landscapes on earth. Diverse structures and a variety of colours characterise the rocky slopes that border the river valley. It stretches over 155 km between the towns of Volcán (2080 m) in the south and Tres Cruces (3780 m) in the north. The main town and namesake of the valley and many side valleys is Humahuaca.
