The lake is usually dry but in times of flood when it fills with water the colours can be remarkable. These views towards the horizon looking towards the risen sun shows a dry part of the lakebed dappled with cloud shadows.

Photography Tips

People have differing opinions about the best height to fly and lens selection. This was taken at 600 feet. Flying in the golden hour is best but low light can present challenges with camera settings. A high shutter speed is needed to prevent motion blur. When shooting straight down depth of field is not a problem so a small f-stop can be used. Settings for these images were: 1/4000 sec, f8, ISO 400, 65mm FL. The second image looking away from the sun has the same settings but different processing.

Make your base in William Creek. The airfield there is just 15 minutes flying time from the lake shore.

Hey Robert, I just changed the name from the very generic "Cloud Patterns" to the actual location. Could you double-check if the title does fit? Thank you :-)

That's good thanks Manuel. I'll remember to be more specific with my names.
