Austria Triefen Wasserfall
The river named Urslau has dug its river bed through a very hard conglomerate body, through which a watersource runs horizontally. This geological peculiarity enables spring water to result in pearling water strings due to a layer of rock, about two to three meters above the Urslau river bed and creates waterfalls of various types in the form of a curtain at a length of about 100 meters. This phenomenon is independent from weather. Because of the constant water flow, in that area a proper growth of numerous water-loving plants is ensured. 39 foliage and 16 liverwort species, as well as 96 fern and infrastructure plant species have already been found. Because of the uniqueness and the great importance of natural phenomena for ecology, species protection, science and landscape aesthetics, the Triefen, in November 2001, became a natural monument under the Salzburg Nature Conservation Act.
