Canada Tombstone Range, Dempster Highway, YK, Canada
The entire southern half of the Dempster Highway in Northern Canada is a photographers paradise. It is very remote, accessible only by vehicle, this resource road provides access to some of the most remote areas of Canada. The mountains and the views are breath-taking. It would be worthwhile to camp in the region for an entire month or entire season.
Photography Tips
Bring insect repellant and perhaps even a head net in summer. Fall is the best time, the reds last only for a few days (it is hard to time).
Travel Information
Fly to Whitehorse Yukon, rent a 4x4 vehicle, drive 500km (7 hours) to Dawson City -- the Dempster Highway starts here. The best views are in the first 400km of the gravel highway but the first 100km are the most iconic, especially near the Tombstone Range. Eagle Plains and the area in between area also wonderful to visit and photograph.
You can camp in lots of campgrounds along the Dempster Highway, or commute back and forth from Dawson City.
