Canada Sunwapta Falls
This is a spectacular waterfall on the Icefields Parkway. These photos, of the lower falls, were taken from promontory points arrived at after making a two kilometer hike from the upper falls. (In the landscape photo, note the woman in the blue coat in the upper middle of the photo to gain some perspective of the size of the lower falls.)
Photography Tips
The two kilometer hike from the upper falls to the lower falls is over a relatively rough, tree root strewn path with moderate down slope. At the end of the path, the railing terminates. Walk around the end of the railing, follow the paths and carefully pick your way down the steep embankments to promontory points that give you a clear view, through the trees, of the lower falls and pool.
Travel Information
You will have to either pre-purchase a Canada Parks Pass, or purchase one as you enter the Icefields Parkway. It's cheaper to pre-purchase. There is ample parking at the upper falls parking lot.
