Between Bengough and the US border lies the Big Muddy badlands. Already at the approach from the north a clear change of the landscape is visible: The hilly, agriculturally used land ends at an eroded edge.
It is very dusty here. It doesn't take much imagination to imagine that it gets muddy when it rains. The main attraction is the bare mountain 'Castle Butte', which juts out of the plain. As bad as the land is for farming, the landscape is worth seeing. The area is populated by ground squirrels. They are always peering curiously out of their burrows.
