Iconic view of Canadian wilderness. Moraine Lake located in Banff National Park close to Lake Louise.

Photography Tips

Get here early, well before sunrise. I used a wide angle lens to capture as much of the lake and mountains as possible. Would suggest using a tripod as you may need a longer shutter speed. In this case I used f11 and 1/5th sec.

Travel Information

There is a trail from the parking lot to the "Rock Pile". Once the parking lot fills up the road is closed to vehicles except for the shuttle bus. I was shocked to see how many people come here for sunrise. Should be OK if you arrive before sunrise.
