Chile Piedras Rojas
The combination of colors is amazing: red rocks, turquoise water, white salt, and blue sky. It is a surreal landscape. Heaven for photographers.
It is quite far from San Pedro (150km) but definitely a must-see when you are in San Pedro de Atacama.
The Piedras Rojas (Red Stones or Red Rocks) are an essential part of the Salar de Aguas Calientes Sur. The entire path through the area runs along this differently structured, red surface. The dark red is covered by a very thin crust of salt. This white coating and the yellow tussock grass form strong contrasts to the rocks. These, in turn, contrast with the Salt Lake and the surrounding mountains.

You can't get into the park without a ticket bought online in advance. Accordingly, this online booking is complicated. At the northern entrance to Socaire, you can do it at a container office with assistance. From there it is about a hundred km or so to the park entrance.
