Chile Red stones in the Atacama desert
It is a special place. High in the Altiplano, in the middle of "nowhere," there are many big, red stone formations.
These are the Monjes de La Pacana (also Monjes de Tara), free-standing rock fingers up to 30 m high.

Travel Information
Take the Ruta 27 east direction from San Pedro (Highway to Argentina). After 103 km look left to see the stone area. There's no touristic sign, that's why it's a little bit difficult to find the way into the area. One good option is to wait on the Highway until the touris tours come along. Follow them to entry the area. You can park inside everywhere. Caution, most of the ways inside are sand ways. Drive carefull or take a 4wheeldrive car.
