Huang Shan is the "Mountain of the Yellow", the Emperor, who’s privilege the colour yellow was. It is a small mountain range with over 70 peaks of more than 1000 meters and world nature and culture heritage site as well as world geo park.
This is one of the most popular landscape motifs in Chinese painting and has been a place of mystical charm for centuries: bizarre cliffs and rocky needles, from which gnarled pines grow, and among them cloud seas. North Sea, West Sea and Central Sea are official names for certain areas where you look upon a sea of clouds.

Photography Tips

Very popular is viewing the sunrise here from above the clouds. Expect extremely many people here very early in the morning. The special place for this daily event is Qingliangtai (Cooling Terrace) above the 'North Sea'.
In every hotel room on the mountain, of course, down jackets are available for this frosty event.
As the light is low, a tripod is advised.

Travel Information

The entire area is well developed by ways, of which a large number are stairs in all variations. They are also the transport routes for all supply and disposal goods up here.
Apart from the strenuous hiking trails up the mountain, which are several kilometres long, there are two cable cars that take people up and back down.
