Croatia Pula cave

  • Please log in or sign up for free to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
This is a beautiful cave in the Adriatic Sea near Pula in Croatia.

You can swim in it or use a kayak but the latter is or will be forbidden soon because of masses of kayaks waiting in front of the cave entrance. So please make sure to go to different places if you care about kayaking and enter the cave swimming to protect the environment and wildlife.

Photography Tips

The best spot to photograph is right at the entrance, photographing out. The further you go, the more artificial light sources you will need. The cave at the end is pitch black.

Use waterproof gear (like an action camera) to swim to this cave and take a photo.

Using a kayak in the cave is forbidden, if you are using a kayak to enter the cave you are destroying nature....please don't do that... rather swim like a fish and have better and respectful experience of the cave.

Thank you for the hint dear Olja. Do you have some official sources? Then I would update the spot to make sure that this hint is well-visible and others are taught about that.

The city finaly decided to start thinking about this area, you can find it in local papers, or online, or also different media started writing about this location because of overtourism.... The area is Natura Histrica, they should protect it, and they did try to make people aware of the problem, but too late and too small..... Promoting such nature online is actually endangering it....only because of our "culture"... https://www.croatiaweek.com/tourisms-toll-on-istrias-magical-beach-and-cave/

Also, kayak is made from plastic, when you go with kayak and bump into a rock, or when you go out from it and drag your kayak on the rocks, you leave microplastic behind you..... anyway the sea is already full of it, but if we try to stop the trend of "doing whatever we want" maybe we can start thinking about other beings, and take more care for the space that surrounds us... it will be beautifull for instagram pictures but also it will be more beautifull for everyone alive in that area... the cave is home for different animals, some also endangered. Just keep in mind we are not the only one, and our actions have consequences. They say next year it will be official....

Thank you very much Olja, I highly appreciate your feedback, and I added these hints to the description + added an overlay to the map to make sure this is read. If you feel something is missing feel free to suggest an edit.
