Croatia A horse in Lonjsko polje
Lonjsko polje (or Lonja field) is wetland and Nature Park located between Sava and Lonja river. It belongs to Danube basin and it is one of the most important wetlands in Croatia. During the flood season, landscape changes completely. It becomes a large shallow lake buzzing with life. Being over 50 acres, it can get overwhelming if you try to explore it without the plan. The first step would be to visit the visitor centre and get some information about the Park highlights (you have to buy a ticket to enter the field). Muzilovcica (don't try to pronounce it, just use Google Maps) is one of the main entrances in the field. If you are lucky, you can find horses grazing and a lot of birds. Bring your super telephoto lens of choice.
Photography Tips
Aim for the dawn. Bring mosquito repelent during flood season.
