France Rapp Square and the Lavirotte Building, Paris

Rapp Square is a quiet little spot off Avenue Rapp, home to the Société théosophique, a small private court yard with fountain and ornate ironwork fence. The building across from it has Art Nouveau features. The architect was Lavirotte, creator of several award-winning buildings around Paris.

The pattern on the back wall was, for me, worth the short walk from the Eiffel Tower.

On the right as you leave, almost beside it, at 29 Avenue Rapp, is the Lavirotte Building. If you think you’ve seen Art Nouveau facades, you’ve seen nothing until you see this one. When Lavirotte finished it 1901, he won the Paris award for new façades.

Go into the private part of the courtyard and look back for a great shot of the ironwork in the foreground and the Eiffel Tower, looming large, behind it (please add that shot to this page).

As you head back to the Eiffel Tower, down Rue de Monttessuy, you’ll see the Eiffel Tower framed quite well by the street.

A wide-angle is useful for the square and the façade.
