France Abbaye de Sénanque from above
L’Abbaye de Nôtre-Dame de Sénanque is a Cistercian monastery nearby the community of Gordes at Département Vaucluse, France, founded in 1148. Very typical is the obedience of Cistercian ascetical strictness in all constructional aspects of the abbey. With consciousness, the end of an isolated valley was chosen as the place for the monastery to prevent all secular distractions from the Monks of which a few today are living there. Today it’s one of the most taken photo subjects of the Provence region and very famous is the lavender fields in front of the monastery. Although it is not easy to exclude the tourist masses from your photo I believe the results will be worth any try.
Photography Tips
Be there early or late. Please do not forget to visit the nice landscape of Roussillon around and all the villages and small towns, a lot of them ranked among the most beautiful villages in France.
