Take a short walk through your town and you’ll find a thousand and one things to photograph. A unique feature of Frankfurt is its significant number of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings in the city centre which form the Frankfurt skyline. Frankfurt is one of only a few cities in the European Union that have such a skyline. Because of the city’s skyline, the city is often called “Mainhattan”, a portmanteau of the local Main River and Manhattan.

Photography Tips

For a great skyline view, you should go to the Main shore and choose one of the different bridges. My favourite spot is the “Deutschherren Bridge” which is a drawbridge. So if you want to take pictures from this bridge you should consider the trains and joggers passing over the bridge as these lead to significant movements and will result in blurred pictures even if you use the camera on a tripod.

Pretty much any of the bridges will be satisfactory if you are facing the skyline :) It all comes down to personal preference.

Deutschherrenbrücke (the bridge where this has been shot) is no drawbridge. It's a railbridge with a public footpath just along the rails on the west side of the bridge. Park your car behind the "Hafenpark" in Mayfarthstraße or Eytelweinstraße (free parking) and walk towards the bridge. The stairs are located behind the second post, counted from the river. Most beautiful view of Frankfurt Skyline. Make sure to bring a tele lens (about 100-135mm on a full frame camera) for this particular view. You might want to bring a very wide angle lens if you want to capture the European Central Bank tower as well. (but then, the impressive skyline is quite small in the frame, since the ECB is so close to the bridge). Great shot, btw. Event though it is heavily photoshopped ;-)
