In the Spessart, southwest of the village of Wiesen, there is a natural forest consisting of a magnificent mixed beech forest. Embedded are the Königer Oaks, pasture oaks that are over 400 years old.
They got their name from the forester Koeniger. He is said to have died of heart failure here about a hundred years ago because the capercaillie hunt got him in extreme discomposure.

Travel Information

A trail is marked from the centre of Wiesen. However, more than halfway, in the first sharp bend of the road to Kleinkahl and Schöllkrippen, there is plenty space for parking.
There is no signposting to the oaks. Therefor ist is advisable to take an photo of the map in the centre of Wiesen at the crossroads.
