Germany Maienwand primeval forest path
The Maienwand primeval forest path (Urwaldpfad Maienwand) is part of the Heiligenstadt city forest (Heiligenstädter Stadtwald) and the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal nature park. Even the forest on the way from the hiking car park is worth seeing.
The primeval forest experience and educational path (Urwald-Erlebnis- und Lehrpfad) runs for about 500 m parallel to the steep slope. Surefootedness is required because the narrow path on the slope is muddy in places and fallen leaves make it even more slippery. The steeply sloping terrain made it difficult for people and equipment to access the forest. So a primeval forest could be preserved. Some of the beech trees and the rare yew trees are well over 200 years old.
