Germany Hirschwieskopf, Berchtesgadener Land
The Hirschwieskopf offers a breathtaking view of the southern tip of the Watzmann and also down to the well-known "Königssee" in Berchtesgadener Land. This summit is almost unvisited due to the long, arduous hike and offers a multitude of incredibly beautiful mountain panoramas.
Photography Tips
To capture the entire southern side of the Watzmann, we recommend taking a wide-angle lens with you. Allow enough time for the hike to check out the location in advance and then don't rush when the southern peak and the surrounding mountains are bathed in golden light. Planning is everything here!
Travel Information
The very challenging hike starts at the Wimbachklamm parking lot and leads via the Wimbachschloss mountain restaurant to the Wimbachgrieshütte and then up to the Hirschwieskopf. The tour oneway takes 13.5 kilometers with an elevation gain of around 1550 meters. This means a distance of 27 kilometers and an altitude profile of over 3000 meters. Only experienced and well-trained hikers with mountain experience should tackle this stage. The last ascent, which is just under one kilometer long, is also quite steep and slippery, especially when it is wet on the mountain, so you should be particularly careful here. It is generally possible to stop for the night at the Wimbachgrieshütte. There is also delicious food and something to quench your thirst here. You can also fill up on water here.
