Germany Burg Bergerhausen
Bergerhausen Castle in Kerpen was built in the 13th century as the seat of the Knights of Bergerhausen. The oldest documented mention dates back to 1291, when the Archbishops of Cologne acquired the building with the aim of securing the border of their Cologne territory. In 1423, the castle, which had been damaged by war and had since fallen into severe disrepair, was rebuilt. Over the course of the 15th century, Bergerhausen Castle was expanded and modernized with strong fortifications. In 1830, the castle came into the possession of Baron Clemens August Waldbott von Bossenheim, who subsequently had the complex converted into a moated castle in its present form. From 1976 to 1989, the castle was leased to a psychotherapy institute. Bergerhausen Castle is now privately owned by the Stollenwerk family, who have continuously renovated the buildings since 1984. The castle is used today for receptions, corporate celebrations, weddings, and similar events.
